The Gutians were ancient nomads from the rugged Zagros Mountains. They caused chaos in Mesopotamia long ago. But who were they really, and what do they mean for us today?

The Gutians came from what is now Iran. Recent studies show they might be related to people from Russia, Italy, and other places. Their family tree is more complicated than we thought.


Traits and Characteristics:

The Gutians were described as wild and fierce in old stories. They were smart but also acted like animals sometimes. Living in the mountains made them tough and sneaky. They were like little birds of prey, striking fast and leaving chaos behind.

The god Enlil used the Gutians to punish people in Mesopotamia. He sent them like a storm to destroy cities. They were seen as bringers of darkness and disorder by those they attacked.
