Decoherence of Humanity: Demonizing Refugees & Migrants reflects a deeper psychological, sexual and social dysfunction.
Decoherence of Humanity: The Historical Demonization of Refugees and the Role of Angertainment
In quantum mechanics, "decoherence" refers to when a system loses its ability to maintain a coherent quantum state due to external interference. When we shift this concept to modern or so called modern society, and particularly when looking at how migrants, refugees are treated throughout history, it becomes a powerful metaphor.
Refugees — already displaced, often fleeing from chaos, war, or disaster — are frequently cast out further, blamed for the issues in the societies they arrive in. Those who encourage these attacks are in “decoherence” with human compassion, empathy, and reason. They are disconnected from the shared vibrations of humanity, often leading to horrific consequences.
Historical Examples of Refugee Demonization
Jewish people in Nazi Germany (1930s-1940s)
Perhaps one of the most notorious examples of scapegoating, Jews were blamed for Germany’s economic troubles after World War I. Nazi propaganda portrayed them as the cause of unemployment, inflation, and social decay, all while they were systematically oppressed and dehumanized. The Jewish people, seeking refuge, were further attacked wherever they ran to in Europe during this sick period of our history, often denounced to the Gestapo after all their properties were either bought for next to nothing or stolen by those who could be seen as being in "decoherence" with basic human decency, leading to one of the most tragic genocides in human history — the Holocaust.Africans in South Africa (Recent Years)
The xenophobic violence that has plagued South Africa, where Black African immigrants, from Nigeria, Ghana, Togolese, West Africans ETC were brutally attacked and murdered by some irate South Africans, is a chilling modern reminder of how even refugees and migrants of the same racial background are blamed for economic challenges. These immigrants, fleeing poverty or war in their own countries, are often accused of "stealing jobs" or causing crime, leading to brutal killings and attacks. This hostility reflects a deep "decoherence" in a society struggling with its identity and economic inequality.Blacks in Britain (1970s-1980s)
When waves of Black immigrants from the Caribbean and Africa arrived in the UK, they were often met with hostility and bizarre rumors. One of the more ridiculous and degrading accusations was that they would eat dog food, perpetuating racist stereotypes. This was a reflection of a broader societal fear and discomfort with the changing demographic landscape, where people became disconnected from reality, driven by fear and ignorance.Chinese Immigrants in the US (19th century onwards)
During waves of Chinese immigration to the US, particularly during the building of the transcontinental railroad, Chinese people were demonized. Racist rumors circulated, accusing them of eating dogs, rats, and selling such meats in their restaurants. The image of the “dangerous other” was an easy way to stoke fear and resentment, despite the lack of any evidence. Here again, we see a profound decoherence, where sections of society become unmoored from reality, preferring the comfort of false, often violent narratives.Trump’s Claims about Haitian Migrants Eating Pets (2024)
In a bizarre and unfounded statement, former President Donald Trump claimed that Haitian migrants in Ohio were eating pet dogs and cats. This claim, repeated by his allies and echoed in certain media circles, is a modern example of "angertainment"—a media-driven spectacle where inflammatory claims are used to stoke anger and division for entertainment and political gain. In this case, the baseless rumor feeds into a broader, irrational fear of the "other" and demonstrates the powerful role of decoherence in public discourse.
The Role of "Angertainment" and "Angertainers"
The term "angertainment" perfectly captures the phenomenon we’re witnessing. People like Trump, and media figures who spread these absurd claims, are "angertainers." They profit off of people’s fears, promoting, furthering false narratives to stoke outrage.
This is not new—many throughout history have used refugees and immigrants as scapegoats for larger societal problems. The media, instead of offering civilised discussions or facts, plays into this cycle of fear. The loudest voices—the angertainers—make it impossible for rationality to thrive, deepening the cultural decoherence.
As we view this through the lens of Michio Kaku's interpretation of decoherence, we can see that those who buy into this energy are "out of sync" with the rest of society.
They are disconnected from the facts, the shared humanity that should bind us.
Like quantum systems losing their superposition, these individuals lose their ability to empathize and instead fall into a world of irrational fear, unable to maintain a coherent state of compassion.
A Freudian Analysis of the "Angertainers"
Now, let’s throw Freud into the mix.
Sigmund Freud might argue that this phenomenon of demonizing refugees and immigrants, particularly the bizarre rumors surrounding their eating habits, could stem from deep-seated psychological anxieties. Freud might interpret this as a form of projection—those who feel powerless or inadequate project their fears onto an external "other" to create a sense of control. These accusations about eating dogs or rats, or pet cats, are nothing more than symbolic manifestations of their own subconscious fears about being consumed or overwhelmed by forces they cannot control.
Freud might also link this to unresolved sexual anxiety. He was, after all, obsessed with the idea that most human behaviors have roots in sexual drives.
The idea that “foreigners” are somehow "animalistic" could represent a repressed fear of uncontrolled sexuality, particularly fear of the unknown or extremely repressed sexuality/ sex desires. This irrational fear manifests itself in xenophobic ideas that are entirely disconnected from reality.
"There have been persistent rumors that so called nationalist leaders have engaged high-class escort agency workers to don fake Rastafarian wigs and impersonate Black Rastafarian men during clandestine sexual encounters, a scenario that could lend credibility to a Freudian analysis of repressed desires.
This position gains further plausibility when considering former President Donald Trump’s well-documented affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels, as well as the widely publicized incident involving a magazine. The details of these events, publicly aired during Trump’s recent trial, further suggest the relevance and accuracy of a Freudian perspective in understanding the deeper psychological implications at play."
In terms of mental health, those who are consistently drawn into angertainment likely suffer from heightened anxiety, fear of losing social standing, and perhaps latent aggression. Freud would likely view them as individuals caught in a feedback loop of neuroses, unable to see through their own projections and compelled to maintain the illusion that they are under attack.
The Impact on Society
The societal impact of such decoherence is deeply damaging. As angertainers peddle baseless claims and those in power perpetuate these claims, we move further away from a coherent society grounded in facts and mutual respect. Instead, we become splintered, with factions falling into their own echo chambers, reinforcing false beliefs.
Compassion for those in need, such as refugees, gradually erodes, we become impossible when so many are disconnected from reality and empathy. Recognizing the patterns of historical scapegoating and resisting the allure of angertainment is important for creating a society that’s coherent, empathetic, and capable of addressing real challenges without creating new divisions.
Throughout history, refugees have been demonized by societies that are "out of sync" with the core values of empathy and compassion.
From Nazi Germany’s scapegoating of Jews to Trump’s baseless claims about Haitian migrants, we see the same patterns repeat themselves. The rise of angertainment and the "decoherence" it creates reflects a deeper psychological, sexual and social dysfunction.
