As of December 2024, the Catholic Church in the United States has paid over $6 billion to settle sexual abuse claims. This figure includes a recent $880 million settlement by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in October 2024, bringing its total payouts to over $1.5 billion.

Additionally, the Diocese of Rockville Centre in New York agreed to a $323 million settlement in September 2024 to compensate approximately 530 survivors of sexual abuse.

These settlements are part of a broader trend over the past two decades, during which U.S. Catholic dioceses have collectively paid more than $5 billion to resolve abuse claims.

The cumulative financial impact highlights the extensive scope of the abuse crisis within the Church and its ongoing efforts to address and provide restitution for past misconduct.
