His Last Night In Mintaka - Orion - Love Got His Ass, His Weakness. - Death Before Dishonor or 'THIS HONOR?' Ase

A senior field commander of a Mintakan defense force takes a short, unannounced leave to reach a remote family refuge. Protocol is followed: a small, elite escort only. No broadcast of absence. The main force remains in position.

The family site is a reinforced natural complex—caves, thermal vents, limited surface access. Two women are present: the older partner who has shared command decisions for years, and the younger woman (daughter or close kin).

While the commander is inside, the outer perimeter collapses without conventional warning. Sensors register nothing until the first physical contact. Troops materialize in tight formation. No prolonged battle; the escort is neutralized or contained. A demand for surrender is delivered calmly: the larger force has already been neutralized elsewhere IS AN UNPROVEN CLAIM AS WE READ..

The commander is offered terms.  He refuses.

The three of them withdraw deeper into the cave system.

He distributes the prepared compound, speaks the words he has carried for years—that the body is temporary and the next arrival will be on a different world—and they take it together. The last sensory details are the cave air, the weight of the two hands, and the absence of fear.

Part 2 – Continuity

The narrative shifts without explanation to a childhood in a specific African region. Family, land, ordinary pressures. Then the same pattern: absence from the core group, sudden disintegration of the household by forces that leave almost no public trace. The protagonist leaves for Europe.

Part 3 – The Tolerable Distance

European life is colder, more transactional. A relationship forms that the protagonist never fully inhabits. It collapses into fraud and quiet ruin. The emotional temperature is lower; the loss is real but does not cut as deeply as the earlier ones. Still the sense of being watched or waited for persists—subtle institutional pressure, unexplained administrative failures, people who appear and disappear at the edges of the story.

Part 4 – The Recurring Image

Dreams and fragmentary regressions return the cave, the two faces, the decision.

The protagonist begins to map the pattern across the three settings.

No grand revelation is forced.

The story ends on the open question the experiences themselves leave: whether the invisible pressure is external, internal, or both, and whether the refusal to surrender continues.
